“Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is?”: Sony to double down on live-service games despite failures

Bungie recently announced significant layoffs. Studio leadership attributed the cuts to declining performance metrics for Destiny 2 over the past few years.

Hideaki Nishino, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed that the company remains committed to live-service games. Despite the failure of recent titles such as Concord, Sony views these projects as a primary method for reaching a global player base.

Nishino stated that Sony plans to support existing games long-term while continuing to develop new ones. The company expects to release MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls later this year.

The SIE head also clarified the company’s release strategy. Internal single-player exclusives will continue to prioritize PlayStation consoles. Live-service titles, however, will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC to maximize the reach of those games.
