Demon Slayer’s 2026 Strategy May Spark Backlash Among Fans

Following its monumental success as the highest-grossing anime film of all time, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has left its global audience clamoring for more. Currently, the fanbase is focused on two major milestones: the official home video launch of Infinity Castle and a confirmed release window for its subsequent sequel. While a digital premiere is anticipated later this year, the prospect of a television-optimized re-release—akin to the episodic treatment of the Mugen Train arc—currently seems improbable.
Recent updates from the official Demon Slayer website indicate that the franchise is pivoting toward a comprehensive retrospective. Starting April 5, Fuji TV will begin a weekly rebroadcast of the entire series, occupying the Sunday morning slot once held by One Piece. Given that the series spans 63 episodes, this broadcast cycle is expected to conclude around July 2027. This schedule suggests that a television adaptation of Infinity Castle may not materialize until the summer of 2026 at the earliest, which coincides with the rumored theatrical window for the next installment. It appears ufotable is concentrating its high-end production resources on cinematic excellence rather than immediate television reformats.

Historical release patterns offer further insight. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train debuted in Japanese cinemas in October 2020, but did not reach streaming platforms until June 2021. The expanded television version, featuring additional footage, followed in October 2021. When prompted for clarity regarding a similar trajectory for Infinity Castle, ufotable co-founder and chief writer Hikaru Kondo remained non-committal, stating he was unable to provide a definitive answer at this time.
With Infinity Castle still enjoying its theatrical run in Japan and the rebroadcast schedule set, 2024 is shaping up to be a transitional year for the franchise. This would represent the first period since the anime’s debut without a new episode, feature film, or compilation special. While the wait for fresh content may be longer than usual, fans can likely expect a significant status update once the details for the Infinity Castle home release are finally unveiled.
