Demi Lovato celebrated Halloween by fully embodying their longstanding internet alter ego, affectionately known as “Poot Lovato,” with elaborate makeup, a bald cap and bespoke styling to recreate the look that once circulated as a viral meme.
Shared on Oct. 30, the images and clips show Lovato transformed into the exaggerated character — pale, partially bald and deliberately uncanny — echoing the unflattering, heavily edited photo from 2015 that spurred jokes and a rumor about a “secret twin.” The singer posted the images on Instagram, pairing the throwback recreation with a tongue-in-cheek performance. In the accompanying video Lovato leans into the bit, reenacting the original shot and staging a comedic scene in a garage where “Poot” panics and shouts for freedom. The caption celebrated the Halloween moment and coincided with the early-week rollout of Lovato’s new album, offering fans a playful glimpse of the persona they once scorned and have since embraced.
The Halloween stunt arrives as Lovato is promoting their latest record, It’s Not That Deep, and follows a string of nostalgic moments — revisiting longtime hangouts and even joining the Jonas Brothers onstage to perform Camp Rock-era material — gestures that have kept fans reminiscing about key chapters of the artist’s career.
When the Poot meme first surfaced a decade ago, Lovato expressed frustration at being the subject of online mockery, describing how an unflattering photo had been repurposed for laughs. Over time the performer has softened toward the joke: for their 31st birthday in 2023 they shared cupcakes printed with Poot images, and they’ve referenced the character humorously on social platforms since.
