David Fincher to leave Netflix in 2027

Bloomberg has reported that David Fincher is set to conclude his tenure at Netflix. The acclaimed filmmaker has been a staple of the streaming platform since 2013, having entered into an exclusive long-term partnership in 2020.

Their collaboration first gained momentum with the groundbreaking series House of Cards. Over the years, Fincher’s portfolio with the streamer has expanded to include two seasons of Mindhunter, the biographical drama Mank, and the thriller The Killer.

Fincher’s final feature film under the current Netflix deal, the adventure-comedy Bitterroot, is scheduled for a December 25th release. While the director had previously expressed interest in helming an English-language adaptation of Squid Game, that project ultimately did not move forward.

Fincher joins a growing list of prominent creatives who have recently moved on from the platform, including Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers and producer Shawn Levy.
