David Beckham Issues Warning on the ‘Power of Social Media’ Following Son Brooklyn’s Controversial Post

Football icon David Beckham has addressed the complexities of digital life after his eldest son, Brooklyn, shared a series of pointed allegations on Instagram accusing his parents of meddling in his marriage to Nicola Peltz.

During an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box this past Tuesday, the sports legend adopted a tactful stance, avoiding a direct confrontation regarding Brooklyn’s viral statements. Just a day prior, Brooklyn had claimed on his Instagram Story that his parents had been “trying endlessly to ruin” his relationship since before his 2022 nuptials, alleging they prioritize “public promotion and endorsements” above their own kin.

Rather than responding to the specific accusations, David pivoted to the broader impact of social media. “I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media, for the good and for the bad. It can be dangerous,” he noted during the interview.

The Inter Miami co-owner emphasized that he encourages his children to utilize their platforms for constructive purposes, highlighting his own advocacy for UNICEF. However, he also acknowledged the inevitability of youth-fueled lapses in judgment. “They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids,” he remarked, adding that as a parent, “You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes.”

A Family Empire Under Scrutiny

David and Victoria Beckham, who have been in the global spotlight since the late 90s, share four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. The eldest, Brooklyn, tied the knot with actress and heiress Nicola Peltz in 2022, a union that has been shadowed by rumors of a family rift for months.

The tension boiled over on Monday when Brooklyn informed his followers that he felt “no choice but to speak” for himself due to his parents’ alleged media maneuvering. He accused David and Victoria of “controlling narratives” through “performative social media posts” and “inauthentic relationships” throughout his life.

Among the more specific grievances, Brooklyn alleged that Victoria backed out of a promise to design Nicola’s wedding gown at the eleventh hour and claimed his mother behaved “inappropriately” during a dance at the wedding reception. “I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he stated, asserting that he is finally “standing up” for himself.

These revelations follow a period of intense speculation. Late last year, fans noticed a digital distancing between the family members. While rumors suggested David and Victoria had unfollowed their son, his brother Cruz later clarified the situation, explaining that the parents had actually been blocked.
