Dave Matthews Condemns Trump Administration and ICE After Minnesota Shooting: ‘These Are Dark Times’

Dave Matthews has issued a scathing critique of the Trump administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the tragic death of Renee Good in Minneapolis. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee used his platform to voice outrage over federal law enforcement tactics and the current political climate.

In a candid video shared via Instagram on Friday, January 9, the 59-year-old musician spoke directly to his followers while walking through his neighborhood on his birthday. Matthews expressed a deep refusal to see his tax contributions fund what he described as “masked thugs” who “terrorize our communities and rip families apart.”

The controversy stems from the January 7 shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good, who was killed during a federal operation. While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has asserted that Good was attempting to strike an officer with her vehicle, available video footage has led many to believe she was simply trying to flee the scene.

“No matter what narrative this administration is trying to sell us, we can see the videos,” Matthews stated, challenging the official account. He argued that from nearly every angle, the footage suggests Good was attempting to escape when she was shot. “He shot her three times in the head—murdered in cold blood,” the singer remarked.

The incident has sparked significant unrest in Minneapolis, where residents have gathered to mourn Good and demand the removal of ICE agents from the city. Mayor Jacob Frey supported these calls, characterizing the shooting as a reckless abuse of federal power.

Matthews’ grievances extended beyond domestic issues. He also condemned U.S. military actions in Venezuela, accusing the administration of attempting to seize natural resources and treating sovereign nations as American property. Labeling the administration as “deeply dishonest,” Matthews concluded his impassioned address with a blunt dismissal of the agency: “These are dark times. F—k ICE.”
