Imani Archer Pens Tender Tribute to Father D’Angelo Following His Death
Published Oct. 15, 2025

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, Imani Archer — D’Angelo’s daughter — shared a moving Instagram tribute to her father, posted a day after the family confirmed the singer’s passing. The statement from the family announced that Michael D’Angelo Archer died on Oct. 14, 2025, following a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.
In her message Imani conveyed profound disbelief and grief, recalling how her father was her fiercest supporter, protector and musical inspiration. She described him as “the kindest and most selfless man” and wrote that he gave her strength and countless lessons about music and life.
Imani reflected on small, intimate moments they shared — from playing piano together to discussing favorite meals — and lamented losing him so young. She closed her note by saying she will honor his legacy and carry his guidance forward, signing off with a defiant message commonly used by those affected by the disease: “f–kcancer.”
The family’s announcement read, in part, that “the shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,” and asked for privacy while inviting fans to celebrate the legacy of music he leaves behind.
Michael Archer Jr., D’Angelo’s son with the late singer Angie Stone, also issued an emotional statement, telling People that this has been an especially difficult year and asking for continued thoughts and prayers as he leans on the resilience his parents taught him.
Though D’Angelo released only three studio albums during his lifetime, his work had an outsized influence on both listeners and fellow artists. In recent days, tributes and condolences have poured in from peers and public figures, including former President Barack Obama, Lauryn Hill, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Tyler, the Creator.
