DaBaby, who has seven nominations for the 2021 BET Awards, putting him in a tie with Megan Thee Stallion for the lead, is set to perform on the show on June 27. BET announced 16 performers on Thursday (June 17), which it says is the highest number of performers in the show’s 21-year history.
Other artists set to perform on the show, which will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, are Andra Day, City Girls, DJ Khaled, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Kirk Franklin, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Migos, Moneybagg Yo!, Rapsody, Roddy Ricch and Tyler, The Creator.
In addition, up-and-coming artists Tone Stith and Bree Runway will perform on the BET Amplified Stage.
“As we return live with culture’s biggest night, this year’s show marks many firsts — including the highest number of performers in 21 years of BET Awards; and viewers can expect several surprise moments,” said Connie Orlando, EVP of specials, music programming & music strategy, in a statement. “Some of today’s hottest talent will join us for our return to L.A. for an unforgettable night celebrating Black excellence.”
While the show’s lineup is impressive, most of this year’s leading nominees are not yet set to perform on the show. The other top nominees — following Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby — are Cardi B and Drake, with five nominations each, and Anderson .Paak, Bruno Mars, Chloe x Halle and Chris Brown, with four nominations each. DaBaby is the only one of these artists who is announced as a performer at this point.
Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the 2021 BET Awards will also honor Queen Latifah with this year’s lifetime achievement award.
This year’s 3-1/2-hour show is set to air live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, Sunday, June 27.
Internationally, the show will simulcast on BET Africa at 2 a.m. CAT and MTV Brazil at 9 p.m. BRT on June 27, followed by international broadcasts on MTV UK on June 28 at 9p.m. BST, BET France on June 29 at 8:45pm CEST.
