Remedy Entertainment pulled back the curtain on its upcoming action title, Control: Resonant, during the latest PlayStation State of Play. The presentation confirmed a September 24 release date, but shortly after the showcase, keen-eyed fans spotted a controversial detail within the PlayStation Store’s Digital Deluxe Edition listing: 48-hour early access. Beginning September 22, those who opt for this premium tier will also receive exclusive digital bonuses, including the Hiss Corruption and Occult outfits, along with the Pickpocket’s Tool artifact.
The gaming industry’s growing reliance on “early access premiums”—effectively pay-to-play windows—continues to be a polarizing practice. It leans heavily into player FOMO (fear of missing out) and the anxiety surrounding potential online spoilers. While we’ve seen extreme examples recently, such as the $120 price point for early access to Forza Horizon 6, this latest move by Remedy feels particularly restrictive. Although the $69.99 price for the Control: Resonant Digital Deluxe Edition sits within standard triple-A pricing, the developer has opted to gate this early-access incentive exclusively behind the PlayStation 5 version of the game, a decision highlighted by PushSquare.
Confirming these details, Remedy communications director Thomas Puha clarified on X that the 48-hour early entry window is indeed exclusive to PlayStation 5 users.
While industry standard-bearers often pivot toward these monetization strategies, it is disheartening to see them further fragmented by platform exclusivity. If developers insist on capitalizing on early access, common availability across all platforms would at least mitigate some of the community frustration. As this trend shows no sign of waning, players are left to decide whether two days of extra playtime is worth the additional investment.
