Coming Soon to GTA Online: A New Enemy, a Submarine Maniac, and More

In GTA Online, Halloween is an entire month-long extravaganza, not just a single evening of fright. This October follows suit, with the first themed week already in full swing. However, the celebration truly escalates in just two days, when Rockstar rolls out additional missions and activities alongside a fresh GTA+ cycle.

Patience for a New Zombie Survival?

Way back in September, dataminers hinted at an ominous new adversary looming on the horizon of Los Santos. On the surface, this could simply be a twist on the existing “Slasher” adversary mode (detail on that below). Yet, the recently leaked artwork—depicting a skeletal hand bursting from the earth—strongly suggests a bona fide zombie uprising. Thus far, survivors have faced the undead in North Yankton’s Ludendorff cemetery and on Cayo Perico. Could this be the third installment, this time staging the apocalypse at the Hill Valley church near Harmony in Great Chaparral? Judging by the tombstones, stately chapel, and signal jammer, players might find themselves navigating multiple sanctuaries across the state, mimicking the multi-part structure of the El Rubio Raid.

Whether these ghouls will rise as a Free Mode menace or a standalone survival challenge remains to be seen; however, the zombie theory gains credence when you consider Rockstar’s incentive structure. Currently, players earn double rewards for Cayo Perico survival until Thursday, then triple payouts for Ludendorff cemetery runs between October 23 and November 6. What better way to fill the two-week gap in between than with a brand-new undead ordeal?

Haunting Adversary Modes

The Featured Series adversary modes are locked in for October:

  • October 2 – 9: Beast vs. Maniac
  • October 9 – 16: Doomsday
  • October 16 – 23: Maniac (Ramius Submarine) (new!)
  • October 23 – 30: Condemned
  • October 30 – November 6: Maniac (including Ramius Submarine variation)

For the uninitiated, the Ramius submarine is the one destroyed during the final phase of the Doomsday Heist—distinct from the purchasable Kosatka. In the Maniac mode, a shotgun-wielding slasher stalks flashlight-bearing prey for three tense minutes, making it a perennial Halloween favorite.

Week-By-Week Halloween Challenges

Rockstar has also unveiled the weekly challenge schedule and corresponding rewards, each netting 200 000 GTA$ (up from the usual 100 000). Complete the first three to unlock the exclusive Vinewood Undead Collection:

  • October 2 – 9: Brown Zombie Mask – Survive 2 waves in any survival mode without dying
  • October 9 – 16: Worn Vintage Mummy Mask – Successfully deliver 3 fares in Taxi Work
  • October 16 – 23: Brown Werewolf Mask – Win 1 Featured Series adversary mode
  • October 23 – 30: Gray Spider Mask – Survive 4 waves in any survival mode without dying
  • October 30 – November 6: Gray Skull Hood Mask – Win 1 Featured Series adversary mode

These cosmetics cap off any horror-lover’s wardrobe—especially fans who’ve already donned the Driver, the classic bag-headed Slasher, or the Psycho suit.

Extra Frights in the Shadows

Beyond these marquee events, a handful of smaller seasonal treats await. The classic Secret Lab quest returns, and this year it rewards a sleek Gray Space Interloper suit—identical in design to the movie-studio alien outfit but rendered in steely gray.

An otherworldly UFO hovers over San Andreas for most of October—pilots working for Higgins Helitours receive a cryptic SMS whenever they fly tourists, daring them to investigate whether these are meteorological probes or something more sinister.

The perennial ghost hunt returns with nine familiar specters—equal parts Los Santos and countryside haunts—and one brand-new apparition: Jay Norris, the ill-fated Lifeinvader CEO whose live-streamed demise in GTA V is forever etched in infamy.

…It’s Jay Norris, founder of Lifeinvader, whose virtual headset was shattered by Michael in a live broadcast.
