Today, we are pulling back the curtain on a brand-new mechanic designed for the upcoming Coaches DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Road Trip for American Truck Simulator: the Mode Switch. This clever feature bridges distinct gameplay styles, allowing you to seamlessly transition between your heavy-haul trucking legacy and fresh adventures behind the steering wheel of a passenger car or luxury coach.

As ETS2 and ATS evolve far beyond traditional freight transport, we needed a robust framework to neatly organize these diverse career paths. To achieve this, the experience has been thoughtfully structured into three distinct disciplines: Truck Mode, Car Mode, and Coach Mode.

Every mode boasts its own tailored mechanics, progression tracks, and professional milestones. Truck Mode preserves the classic freight-hauling and corporate empire-building you know and love. Meanwhile, Car Mode—arriving alongside Road Trip—focuses heavily on open-ended exploration and cultivating strong client reputations. Finally, Coach Mode challenges you to master scheduled passenger transit, ensuring smooth transit and maximum comfort for your travelers from terminal to terminal.

Progression remains strictly compartmentalized within each career path; for instance, Car Mode utilizes a reputation metric instead of conventional experience points. However, vital profile pillars remain universally linked. Your bank balance and global map discovery span across all modes. This means every scenic backroad uncovered during a leisurely car drive remains permanently charted when you climb back into your semi-truck cabin, and vice versa.

Dividing the experience this way ensures that everything relevant to your active profession—from your garage fleet and statistics to mode-specific configurations—stays neatly organized in one accessible hub.

Transitioning between modes is remarkably intuitive. You can swap profiles whenever the vehicle is stationary to manage that specific career, though the game restricts you from running multiple active contracts simultaneously across different modes. The definitive transition takes effect the moment you hit the road by pressing the Drive prompt.

Currently, the GPS navigation system remains tethered to the mode you last operated, meaning you cannot pre-configure a route for a newly selected mode prior to departure. The correct navigational tools and rule-sets instantly activate as soon as you get rolling. Looking forward, we are already investigating ways to make cross-mode navigation even more fluid in upcoming patches.

Wondering where you parked your alternative vehicles? The world map conveniently highlights the resting locations of your entire fleet, alongside your current coordinates during Quick Jobs. Whenever you execute a mode switch, you will resume your journey right from the exact spot you last parked that specific car, truck, or coach.

The implementation of these varied modes also influenced our recent overhaul of the fatigue mechanics. Fatigue Simulation is now split into two components: Rest State and Mandatory Breaks. Your Rest State measures generalized driver exhaustion and persists across all modes, whereas Mandatory Breaks govern legally mandated downtime. Commercial freight trucks and passenger coaches strictly adhere to these mandatory stop laws, whereas standard passenger cars do not.

Introducing multiple gameplay modes marks a monumental step in expanding both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, harmonizing fresh experiences without fracturing the core universe. Each discipline offers a rewarding career path, while shared financial and exploratory systems guarantee that the world remains unified under a single profile.
