Jennifer English, the acclaimed voice talent behind Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has officially stepped down from her role as the protagonist Gwendolyn in the highly anticipated action title, Tides of Annihilation. Developer Eclipse Glow Games confirmed that English’s departure is due to personal health concerns.
In a detailed statement released via the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the studio explained that English informed them of her need to withdraw from the project earlier this June. “While we were naturally saddened by her decision, we fully understand and support Jennifer’s choice to prioritize her well-being,” the team noted, expressing sincere gratitude for the professionalism and dedication she demonstrated throughout their collaboration.
Despite stepping back from the lead performance, English will remain involved with the project in a consulting capacity. Furthermore, she played an active role in selecting her successor. Eclipse Glow Games has already finalized the recasting, choosing an actor whose recent work left a significant impression on both the developers and English herself. The studio praised the newcomer’s commitment to capturing the depth and nuance of the protagonist, stating they are eager for the community to hear the new interpretation.
The updated performance will debut during the upcoming Gamescom demo, where the studio plans to officially introduce the new voice actor.
First unveiled in February 2025, Tides of Annihilation is a stylish action-adventure steeped in Arthurian legend. Players take on the role of Gwendolyn, the lone survivor of a post-invasion London, as she battles an otherworldly threat by channeling the strength of ten legendary, colossal knights. While a specific release date has yet to be announced, the title is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
