Cate Blanchett to Star in New Film by ‘The Brutalist’ Director Brady Corbet

Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett participated in an engaging public interview at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

The actress revealed that she is preparing to collaborate with Brady Corbet, the filmmaker behind The Brutalist. Corbet’s upcoming project, The World to Come, will explore the history of occultism in America. The cast also features Selena Gomez and Michael Fassbender.

Throughout her illustrious career, Blanchett has partnered with a diverse array of visionary directors, including Peter Jackson, Jim Jarmusch, Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, and David Fincher, among others.

There are so many different types of directors: some excel at communicating with actors, others are masters of post-production, and some focus intently on the script. But the most crucial quality is whether a director can envision the complete picture. <…> Above all, a truly great director understands how to orchestrate a team to ensure everything functions harmoniously,

Blanchett shared. She emphasized that after years on set, her passion for the craft remains undiminished.

Just look at the people I’ve been fortunate enough to work with! I still arrive on set and find myself in awe of everything happening around me. There is so much that inspires me. I still possess plenty of energy—perhaps even too much—and I’m often thinking about where to channel it next,

she added. In 2018, Blanchett presided over the Cannes jury, where the Palme d’Or was awarded to Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Japanese drama Shoplifters. Among Blanchett’s upcoming projects are the comedy Alpha Gang and the adventure film How to Train Your Dragon 2.
