Cate Blanchett advocates for a shift in how directors communicate on film sets. The actress highlighted a distressing encounter during the production of Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Babel, in which she starred alongside Brad Pitt.
“Brad and I were filming a scene. We had completed a couple of takes when Iñárritu approached us and remarked, ‘That looks like s***.’ He then repeated, ‘What kind of s*** is this?’ It completely threw me off. It is vital that we reconsider the tone we use with one another on set; at times, it can be incredibly disrespectful,”
— Blanchett observed.
She emphasized that while directors may need to be demanding with their actors, that pursuit of excellence should always be rooted in mutual respect.
