Capcom explains why Pragmata remained strictly single-player and lacks a meaningful co-op

Pragmata from Capcom blends third-person shooting with puzzle mechanics. Although a two-player cooperative option was feasible, the team concluded it wouldn’t fit their creative vision for the title.

In an interview, producer Naoto Oyama explained why the team opted for a strictly single-player experience despite the game’s cooperative undertones.

“We explored the possibility of two players, but our main objective was to create a distinct gameplay experience. We concentrated entirely on keeping the player engaged and on the satisfaction of managing combat and puzzle-solving simultaneously, which shaped the game as it stands.”

The developers felt that splitting combat and hacking duties between two players would dilute the pleasure of multitasking between the contrasting playstyles of Hue and Diana. Instead, the design encourages self-coordination: Diana can hack a path that Hue then follows using his jetpack or hover abilities, and on larger maps she can scan the environment and indicate the optimal route. This interplay becomes a central gameplay pillar.

Capcom assures that Pragmata will provide a satisfying challenge for veteran players while remaining accessible to newcomers. Difficulty will increase progressively as players master the mechanics and hacking systems, and the team plans to reveal more information closer to launch.

The game is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
