Bungie Shakes Up Marathon With “Experimental” New PvE Mode
As Bungie navigates a challenging period marked by internal restructuring and a tapering of support for Destiny 2, the spotlight has intensified on Marathon. The studio aims to revitalize its extraction shooter next week with the introduction of “Vault Breaker,” an experimental PvE mode designed to diversify the gameplay experience.
Launching on July 21 as the centerpiece of a mid-season refresh (version 1.1.5), Vault Breaker invites Runners to infiltrate the Cryo Archive for a fresh roguelite challenge. According to Bungie, players will navigate increasingly formidable Vaults across consecutive runs. Success rewards them with Vault Data, which can be used to augment their Sponsored Kit or exchanged for specialized gear in the newly established Vault Breaker Armory. This equipment, which includes unique weaponry and tactical items, can be integrated into broader excursions across Tau Ceti. The mode supports solo, duo, and full-trio squad configurations.
