Britney Spears is forcefully pushing back against recent sensationalized claims regarding her behavior at a local restaurant. The pop icon dismissed the reports as entirely unfounded, characterizing them as part of an ongoing, unfair smear campaign aimed at tarnishing her reputation.
In an official statement provided to Billboard this Thursday (May 14), a representative for the star clarified that Spears was merely enjoying an unremarkable, peaceful dinner with her security team and assistant. The spokesperson emphasized that the singer was simply recounting an anecdote about her dog’s interactions with neighbors and categorically denied that she brandished a knife or threatened anyone’s safety.
“She was simply using a knife to slice her hamburger,” the representative explained. “This persistent hostility toward her every move is reminiscent of the media’s attempts two decades ago to paint Britney as a villain. It is absurd, and frankly, it needs to end.”
These comments arrive in the wake of a viral social media post from Wednesday (May 13), in which an individual claimed to have witnessed an “insane” scene at a restaurant, alleging that diners were terrified by Spears’ actions. This was followed by media reports, including one from TMZ, stating that witnesses observed the singer acting erratically at a Sherman Oaks eatery.
Spears has recently been working toward a fresh chapter following a March incident in Ventura County, where she was arrested on suspicion of a DUI, leading to a brief stay at a wellness facility. She later entered a plea agreement, accepting a misdemeanor “wet reckless” charge—a significantly lesser offense than the initial DUI allegations—and was sentenced to one year of probation.
Addressing the legal resolution at the time, her attorney, Michael Goldstein, noted that the plea reflected Spears’ willingness to take full accountability. “She has proactively pursued positive growth, which is evident in the District Attorney’s decision to dismiss the DUI charge,” Goldstein stated. “Britney is deeply appreciative of the discretion shown in this case and remains grateful for the unwavering support from her fans.”
