Oscar winner Brendan Fraser has officially agreed to reprise his role as archaeologist Rick O’Connell in the fourth installment of The Mummy.
“I’ve waited twenty years for this call. Sometimes it came loud, sometimes barely at all. Now? It’s time to give fans what they want,” Fraser told the Associated Press.
Rachel Weisz is also set to appear. The picture will be directed by Tyler Gillett and Matthew Bettinelli‑Olpin, the filmmakers behind the horror hits Ready or Not and Scream. Plot specifics and a release date have not been revealed.
The original The Mummy premiered in 1999 and followed a group of treasure hunters who awaken an ancient evil in the Egyptian desert. The trilogy has grossed roughly $1.258 billion worldwide.
Fraser also stars in the drama Family for Rent, which opens in the United States this week.
