Choreographer Kiel Tutin Explains the Moves Behind BLACKPINK’s Biggest Moments

BLACKPINK’s performances often look effortless, but the precision and energy onstage are the product of intensive creative work. Choreographer and creative director Kiel Tutin recently dismantled several of the group’s signature routines and explained how he crafted those defining moments.

In a Page Six interview published Monday, October 27, 2025, Tutin walked viewers through staples like the viral “Pink Venom” choreography and the staging for BLACKPINK’s headline set at Coachella. He singled out the “Pink Venom” routine as a turning point, noting that its reception — including high-profile moments like Taylor Swift dancing to it and adding it to show playlists — helped broaden the group’s reach.

“Pink Venom” itself proved a commercial milestone, peaking at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its success positioned the quartet for larger festival stages. For Coachella 2023, Tutin took on expanded responsibilities as both choreographer and creative director to shape a headline show that balanced spectacle with the group’s strengths.

Tutin also shared how his lifelong love of girl groups influenced the aesthetic choices: he traced early inspiration to the Spice Girls and the U.K. act Girls Aloud. He cited Girls Aloud’s feather-fan routine from the 2009 BRIT Awards as a touchstone when conceiving the visual approach for BLACKPINK’s “Typa Girl.”

The team even explored the dramatic idea of guest appearances — Tutin revealed the Spice Girls were considered for a cameo — but they ultimately decided BLACKPINK’s four members could command the stage independently without added features.

He praised the band’s commitment and discipline, pointing out that ROSÉ, LISA, JISOO and JENNIE had only a few days — roughly three to five — to rehearse for the Coachella set. After a brief break during which members pursued solo projects, BLACKPINK resumed touring; their next scheduled stop is Jakarta on November 1, 2025.
