In a formal update posted to X, the White Sox organization reported: “Longtime anthem performer Gerald Chaney suffered a medical crisis during pregame ceremonies tonight. He received immediate care from on-site EMTs and remained conscious before being taken to the hospital for further observation. The entire White Sox organization is keeping Gerald and his loved ones in our thoughts, wishing him a swift and full recovery.” Chaney has been a staple at professional sporting events for over two decades.

The incident unfolded during the team’s Jackie Robinson Day observations at Rate Field. Chaney, who was slated to perform the national anthem immediately following “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” reportedly struggled during his performance before collapsing behind home plate.
