Bebe Rexha Eyes a Career Breakthrough: Jests About Taylor Swift’s Mentorship After Going Independent

Bebe Rexha is still chasing that elusive, definitive career pinnacle—and she jokingly suspects Taylor Swift might be the one to help her reach it.
In a series of lighthearted and self-deprecating posts on X, the pop vocalist poked fun at her industry status by referencing the “khia asylum.” The term is a piece of internet slang—often criticized for its origins—used to describe musicians who remain in a state of perceived commercial stagnation. Sharing a viral meme that depicted the “liberation” of peers like Sabrina Carpenter, Charli xcx, and Zara Larsson from this metaphorical confinement, Rexha quipped, “Guys please help me. It’s so lonely in here.”
The Brooklyn-born singer leaned further into the joke with a voice note, humorously lamenting how her contemporaries have moved on to global superstardom while she remains “stuck” in the asylum.
When a fan suggested that Rexha should recruit the 14-time Grammy winner, Taylor Swift, to manage her professional trajectory, Rexha didn’t miss a beat, replying, “That’s actually genius.”
While the social media banter was clearly in jest, Rexha’s actual resume is far from stagnant. Over the past 15 years, she has solidified herself as a formidable force in the industry, boasting 13 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and four Grammy nominations to her name.
Nevertheless, she acknowledges that she hasn’t quite achieved the same level of ubiquitous cultural saturation as some of her A-list peers. However, a major shift is currently underway. Having announced on January 11 that she has parted ways with her longtime label, Warner Records, Rexha is embracing a newfound sense of autonomy.
“I actually just went independent,” she revealed to her followers, confirming that she has signed with Ghazi’s company, Empire. Expressing her enthusiasm for the new partnership, she added, “THEY BELIEVE AND ARE AMAZING.”
