«Barbie» Sequel Confirmed
David Ellison, the chief of the newly merged Skydance entity (encompassing Paramount and Skydance), has firmly committed to the development of a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Barbie.”
“There is no scenario where a Barbie 2 does not happen,”
Ellison stated during an address to the company’s staff.
Previous reports had suggested that development on the follow-up had stalled, with rumors circulating that Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav viewed the salary demands from director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie as prohibitively expensive. To date, no formal announcement regarding the sequel’s production has been made, and all plot details remain strictly under wraps.
“Barbie” debuted in 2023 to immense success, grossing over $1.4 billion at the global box office. The film followed the iconic doll, portrayed by Robbie, as she embarked on a transformative journey into the real world.
