Bandai Namco Reveals Problems with Tales of Remasters: Why Are the Games Being Released Out of Order?
Yusuke Tomizawa, the lead producer of the Tales of franchise, spoke about the difficulties involved in remastering the series’ classic titles and explained why releases don’t follow the original launch order.
At the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Tomizawa said Bandai Namco is continuing to work on remasters to recover titles that millions of fans no longer have access to. That effort is especially significant during the series’ 30th anniversary year.
But the process is complex:
“We first have to locate the original source code and determine who holds it. That can be awkward, since various studios have contributed to the series over the years, so finding the original assets is the initial challenge. When we do locate them, we often uncover issues that require months of analysis and fixes.”
As a result, Bandai Namco often runs several remaster projects simultaneously to balance different production schedules. The team sets priorities based on how quickly each project can be completed.
Tomizawa noted that while releasing the games in chronological order is ideal, the current priority is maintaining a steady release cadence, beginning with the titles that can be finished the fastest.
