“Stories on Stories”: A Three-Part Mini‑Documentary Illuminates Avicii’s Studio Work on Stories
Published November 6, 2025

Avicii’s second studio album, Stories, arrived on October 2, 2015, spawning singles such as “The Nights” and “Waiting for Love.” The record climbed to No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and remained on that chart for five weeks.
Now available as a three‑part documentary on YouTube, Stories on Stories opens up previously unseen footage from the 2014–2015 sessions that produced much of that album. The series traces the creative process behind the music, offering fans a close look at how the songs evolved in the studio.
The first episode, released November 6, 2025, features intimate studio footage of Tim Bergling working alongside songwriter and performer Alex Ebert (known as the frontman of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros). The installment concentrates on the writing and arrangement of “For a Better Day,” a track that spent 17 weeks on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart beginning in September 2015.
The film captures relaxed studio moments and collaborative problem‑solving as ideas take shape. Ebert reflects on Bergling’s exacting ear for melody, describing how Tim could instinctively locate the right harmonic motion and refine even the smallest melodic detail.
The premiere includes an archival moment in which Avicii explains that he recorded many studio sessions with the intention of sharing them—potentially as a YouTube series—so listeners could see the creative process unfold. Since 2019, Bergling’s family has worked to preserve material from his laptop and drives, curating recordings and documents that chronicle his work as Avicii.
Subsequent episodes broaden the spotlight, featuring contributions from artists and producers such as Gavin DeGraw, Rami Yacoub and Wyclef Jean as they revisit the making of songs like “Sunset Jesus” and others. The second episode is scheduled to premiere on December 4, 2025, with the third installment arriving on January 1, 2026.
Tim Bergling died on April 20, 2018. In the years since his passing, a number of commemorative projects have followed, including a posthumous album released in 2019, a biography, a photo book, new music releases, and the Avicii Experience museum in Stockholm.
Stories on Stories is presented by the Avicii Estate in partnership with Pophouse, the Swedish entertainment company that acquired 75% of Avicii’s recordings and publishing in 2022.
