Arrowhead Pauses Helldivers 2 Updates to Fix Issues

Helldivers 2 won’t receive new expansions in the near future. Arrowhead Game Studios is temporarily pausing new content releases to concentrate on refining the game.

Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the title was one of the largest releases in recent years. It underwent active development and received frequent updates, but the sheer volume of additions led to a buildup of technical issues. The team will take a pause to focus on optimization.

The latest major update, Into the Unjust, introduced a wealth of new content but also caused an uptick in bugs and performance regressions. In September the developers pledged to revisit the roadmap and prepare a series of fixes — that process is already underway.

Director Mikael Eriksson acknowledged that the game has faced a number of problems:

“Many systems are not working correctly, including performance. We’re seeing FPS drops, crashes, and freezes. Things worsened after Into the Unjust, and players’ complaints are entirely justified.”

He said the team is postponing certain updates to prioritize stability. Hotfixes are being prepared, but major improvements — such as increased performance on consoles — will require more time. The developers are asking fans for patience.
