After allegations of cannibalism and sexually charged violence, Armie Hammer has stepped away from his Hollywood career. Reportedly, the actor with Russian roots is exploring work in his ancestral country — Russia. He is currently negotiating a role in the spy thriller “Alternative,” an adaptation of Alexander Zhuravsky’s novel, sources said during a Cinema Fund pitch session.
The story is set in 2036, in a world whose security is overseen by neural networks — Russian and American. As events progress, Russian intelligence uncovers an imminent provocation by the British that could spark a global conflict. A former special-forces operative does everything he can to prevent widespread bloodshed.
Petr Fedorov is expected to play the lead role, with Hammer reportedly cast in a supporting part.
The film will be directed by Evgeny Sangadzhiev (known for “Ballet” and “Happy End”).
