Ariana Grande is preparing to step away from the limelight once her blockbuster Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes on September 1. As part of this planned hiatus, the pop icon has officially withdrawn from headlining the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical Sunday in the Park With George, which had been slated to debut next summer in London.

People first broke the news on Sunday, August 2, following the release of Grande’s highly anticipated studio album, Petal, sharing an official statement provided by her representative. Billboard has reached out to the singer’s management team for further comment.

“Ariana intends to withdraw from public visibility once the Eternal Sunshine Tour reaches its finish line,” the statement explained. “She is eager to wrap up the tour successfully, prioritizing her health and happiness, before taking a much-needed break from the relentless public scrutiny that accompanies high-profile work. This journey has been profoundly rewarding, and she remains endlessly grateful for the unwavering love from her supporters throughout every single performance.”

Grande’s departure from Sunday in the Park With George also means she will no longer star alongside her fellow Wicked castmate Jonathan Bailey in the prestigious London production.

Currently entering the final month of her itinerary, the Eternal Sunshine Tour will make stops in Chicago for three consecutive performances from August 3 to August 6, before concluding with a grand 10-night residency in London running from August 15 through September 1.

Her latest record, Petal, dropped on Friday, July 31, accompanied by the release of its evocative title track as the project’s second official single.

The accompanying cinematic music video directly addresses the intrusive commentary and relentless body-shaming Grande has faced regarding her physical appearance in recent years.

In the striking visual narrative, the multi-hyphenate artist confronts her harshest critics head-on—symbolically wielding a chainsaw—after enduring harsh critiques claiming she lacks sex appeal or falls short of unrealistic expectations. Mock audition feedback shifts from demands for cosmetic enhancements to accusations of “over-correction,” mirroring the exact conversational cycles found across social media.

Following her well-earned hiatus, audiences will next be able to see Grande on the silver screen in Focker-in-Law, slated for theatrical release on November 25. The upcoming comedy serves as the newest installment in the beloved Meet the Parents franchise, featuring Hollywood veterans Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.
