Ariana Grande is holding nothing back on her upcoming studio album, Petal. In a newly released Apple Music preview shared on Wednesday, July 29, the pop sensation revealed that the record stems from a profound place of raw, unfiltered fury.

Coming just ahead of the “Petal Radio” special broadcast scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 5 p.m. PT—which promises a deeper dive into the LP—the footage features Grande relaxing on the bed featured in her Eternal Sunshine Tour set design. When prompted to name her favorite of the 12 tracks on Petal, the Grammy-winning artist admitted she simply couldn’t single out just one.

“I am equally thrilled to witness how listeners connect with every single song,” she shared. “It channels various facets of my personality while remaining deeply experimental and entirely unique for me. I composed these pieces from an emotional landscape I rarely explore: a visceral, unbridled anger that I believe we all experience at some point.”

She continued, “Usually, I am far too hesitant to unlock that side of myself. This time around, I imposed far fewer filters than I typically do. Rather than spending hours rewriting lyrics to soften the edges or make them more palatable, I let them stand as they were.”

This is not the first time Grande has hinted at the fierce intensity driving Petal. Back in May, she posted footage of herself breaking down the conceptual heart of the project during a strategy session with her team, describing the material at the time as “slightly feral” and rooted in an emotional space she had previously been too polite or timid to access. It ultimately amounted to a liberating sense of unapologetic detachment.

While audiences must wait for the full project’s release on Friday, July 31, to experience the complete vision, the teasers unveiled so far fully validate her descriptions. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping lead single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” she confronts uncomfortable truths with searing candor: “I’ve held your projections when you’ve felt so insecure/ Tell me, why is it this way?/ Why you so hate to see women endure?/ Is it really my fault you all gave me your hearts of your own accord?”

“Good luck on your way to hell,” the powerhouse vocalist delivers with striking composure in an audio snippet shared via Instagram earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the title track—which she premiered live during the opening night of her Eternal Sunshine Tour in Montreal—further explores the complexities of living in the spotlight. “All of my favorite stories end in some kind of catastrophe,” the poignant lyrics state. “But I don’t need someone to save me/ ’Cause this music and I will never die.”
