Ariana Grande Debuts ‘Petal’ Title Track at Eternal Sunshine Tour: ‘Don’t Need Someone to Save Me’

Concertgoers in Montreal experienced a monumental moment during Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour when the pop icon surprised the audience by premiering an unreleased song from her highly anticipated upcoming album, Petal.

Taking the stage on Tuesday night (July 28) at the Bell Centre, Grande treated fans to a live rendition of the album’s title track, “Petal,” which serves as the centerpiece of her eighth studio album dropping at the end of the week. Dressed in the ethereal white gown featured in the dramatic finale of her show—where she is seemingly lifted into the night sky by a UFO—the powerhouse vocalist delivered the track’s hypnotic verses and soaring, atmospheric chorus with absolute precision.

“All of my favorite stories end in some kind of catastrophe / But I don’t need someone to save me / ’Cause this music and I will never die,” she crooned, backed by lush harmonies and the thunderous rhythm of her live drummer. “Tired of printing endless pictures of a life that isn’t mine / Trying different boys on for size / If this is my curse, I’ll let it rise.”

The Tuesday evening performance held even more treats for longtime fans, with Grande performing a snippet of “Worst Behavior” from the deluxe edition of her 2021 album Positions live for the very first time.

The momentum continued the following day when Grande took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes glimpses from her latest visual project. Teasing what appears to be a cinematic new music video—hinted at by a nostalgic, 1950s-inspired teaser released earlier that week—she captioned the post with evocative lyrics from “Petal”: “just as long as she keeps getting it right heartbreak won’t bite. this is paradise.”

In the retro-styled teaser, the acclaimed Wicked star introduced fans to a brand-new persona within the Petal narrative universe. “Hello, I’m Pepper,” she introduces herself to a receptionist in the striking black-and-white clip. “I’m here for the audition.”

Petal arrives on Friday (July 31), following the massive success of her 2024 record, Eternal Sunshine, which dominated the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks and yielded two Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers: “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” Setting the tone for her newest era, the album’s lead single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” immediately debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, marking the milestone 10th chart-topping single of her illustrious career.

The Grammy-winning artist continues to weave these chart-dominating anthems into her nightly setlist for the Eternal Sunshine Tour, which launched in early June. Following a final two-night run in Montreal, the tour heads to Chicago for a three-night stint before culminating in a grand 10-night residency at London’s O2 Arena.
