Sony recently unveiled its “Hyperpop Collection,” a vibrant new line of accessories designed to revitalize the aesthetic of its current-generation hardware. However, the initial excitement has rapidly devolved into frustration for PS5 Pro owners.
The tech giant has once again chosen to restrict its custom faceplates to the Slim model, completely overlooking its most expensive console iteration.
The backlash across platforms like X and Reddit was immediate. PS5 Pro users have voiced their disappointment, claiming they feel like “second-class customers” despite having invested in the brand’s premium hardware. Critics are questioning the logic behind Sony releasing a high-end console in late 2024 while offering virtually no official personalization options. To date, the only exclusive aesthetic for the Pro remains the limited-edition Ghost of Yotei design—a stark contrast to the diverse selection available for the Slim.
Many fans had expected a more unified approach to accessory compatibility. Instead, Sony’s focus remains squarely on its more accessible models. Official social media channels are currently filled with comments lambasting the company for ignoring its top-tier consumer base in favor of mass-market appeal.
Pre-orders for the Hyperpop PS5 Slim plates are scheduled to begin on January 16, 2026, with a retail release set for March 12. For now, PS5 Pro owners looking to refresh their setup will have to settle for a new controller, as the console itself is forced to retain its standard factory look.
