Anastasia Fyodorovna Snezhnaya Baffles Genshin Impact Fans — They Don’t Know How to Refer to Her Properly
The developers gave the protagonist several potential names and one peculiar nickname.
In late June, the Genshin Impact team released teasers for the 7.x update series. HoYoverse introduced various characters from Snezhnaya, but one character caused confusion among fans.
Most characters have straightforward names like Vesna, Mitya, Alyosha, Danika, or Anastasia Fyodorovna Snezhnaya. This naming convention puzzled Japanese players who usually refer to characters by their given names. Fans quickly adopted variations such as Anastasia, Ana, or Nastasha, while others simply call her the Tsaritsa.
Some players rejected these conventions and began referring to the character as Snezhnaya, which is the name of the new region featured in the 7.x updates. Others use the patronymic Fyodorovna.
A unique way of writing the character’s name also emerged—[ー・ー・ー]—and it gained significant popularity. The creators of this shorthand removed all katakana characters, leaving only the symbols for long vowels and separators between the name components.
This notation earned Anastasia Fyodorovna Snezhnaya the nickname Sa, which is how that sequence sounds in the Japanese version of Morse code.
Genshin Impact update 7.0 launches in August.
