Analysts from Ampere Analysis calculated that due to the delay of GTA 6, 700,000 fewer PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles will be sold this year than expected, and 21 million fewer games. As a result, the console market will miss out on $2.7 billion. The overall growth of the video game industry in 2025 will be only 0.9%, but it will increase to 2.2% the following year. Factors include inflation and increased competition, prompting companies to be more selective and focused on efficiency.
The report also notes that the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI will boost sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 during Christmas. According to experts, the first model of the hybrid console is often a second device for PlayStation 5 owners. Despite content differences, they occupy the same competitive space.
