ATS Steam Input fix: what changed after update 1.43

American Truck Simulator update 1.43 introduced a broad controller overhaul, but the first release left Steam Input configuration files out of sync. SCS Software published a separate notice on December 16, 2021 after deploying a corrected configuration through Steam.

What caused the controller problem

Version 1.43 expanded gamepad navigation across the user interface. Players could move through menus with the D-pad and use the virtual mouse with fewer keyboard actions. The matching Steam Input files, however, were not updated correctly, so some players had to refresh the configuration manually.

The correction was delivered through Steam rather than as another game build. SCS advised restarting the Steam client so it could download the revised layout from Steam’s servers.

Why custom layouts could reset

The corrected official configuration could replace changes made after update 1.43. Players who had manually repaired or customized the layout therefore needed to review their bindings after Steam refreshed the file. The announcement did not claim that save data, profiles or installed DLC were affected.

The corrected Steam Input configuration addressed the December 2021 files distributed after ATS 1.43. Later controller problems can have different causes because ATS, Steam Input and operating-system drivers have changed since that update.
