ATS on Steam Deck: gamepad and touchscreen support

On February 24, 2022, SCS Software outlined how American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 were being adapted for Valve’s Steam Deck. The work also improved gamepad support on desktop systems, so the announcement covered more than the handheld alone.

What SCS added for Steam Deck

The games received special control bindings for the device and a basic layer of touchscreen support. Players could tap menu buttons on the screen instead of relying on a mouse. SCS also said Steam Deck users would remain compatible with Convoy sessions, allowing them to drive with friends on other supported PC platforms.

The changes were designed around navigating the interface without reaching for a keyboard. That goal followed the controller overhaul introduced with update 1.43, which had already reworked menu navigation and expanded the actions available to a gamepad.

A clearer gamepad layout

Alongside the handheld-specific work, SCS added an on-screen legend for gamepad mappings. The legend identifies the function assigned to each button, reducing the need to memorize a complex layout or repeatedly open the control settings.
