AMD and Intel strengthened their positions in the graphics card market, but NVIDIA still dominates — report
Intel’s market share hits 1% for the first time.
Jon Peddie Research has released its report on the discrete graphics card (AIB) market for the third quarter of 2025.
AMD’s share climbed by 0.8 percentage points to 7%, still below its level from the first quarter of 2025. Intel added 0.4 percentage points, reaching 1% of the market for the first time. Gains by rivals reduced NVIDIA’s share by 1.2 percentage points to 92%, but the company remains overwhelmingly dominant.
According to the report, the overall market value reached $8.8 billion, while shipments rose to 12 million units — an increase of 2.8% versus the prior quarter — which is below the ten-year average for this quarter (11.4%). JPR links this to record purchases in Q2, likely driven by heightened demand ahead of anticipated tariff hikes, which partly dampened purchasing activity in Q3.
Analysts anticipate renewed momentum in the fourth quarter. Industry sources are already reporting upcoming price increases for graphics cards. Even without major product launches, several manufacturers are preparing to revise their suggested retail prices in early 2026. Such adjustments could prompt another bout of “panic buying” similar to the surge seen mid-year.
