All PlayStation Network Services Are Experiencing an Outage

The PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently offline, rendering all core online functions—including account management, the PlayStation Store, and multiplayer networking—completely inaccessible. Players are currently restricted solely to offline features. Having persisted for upwards of six hours, this unexpected blackout has heavily disrupted online gameplay, most notably sabotaging the launch of the highly anticipated open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, which was scheduled to kick off today.

Because of the outage, eager PlayStation enthusiasts remain locked out of the console-exclusive title. “We are aware that numerous PlayStation users are encountering authentication and connectivity hurdles,” the official Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls X account announced earlier today. “Our engineering team is actively investigating the situation to determine the root cause. We will provide further updates as soon as more details become available.”

This is undeniably frustrating for developer Arc System Works, which just wrapped up announcements revealing that Phoenix Cyclops will serve as the premier DLC fighter for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Unfortunately, the studio’s hands are entirely tied. According to the official PSN service status portal, multiple critical pillars are listed as experiencing widespread disruption:

  • Account Management
  • Gaming and Social Features
  • PlayStation Video
  • PlayStation Store
  • PlayStation Direct

While network dropouts are never welcome, the timing of this incident is uniquely agonizing. Earlier this month, PlayStation confirmed plans to permanently halt the production of physical media discs for new releases starting in January 2028. Historically, physical media served as a reliable safety net during server outages, allowing gamers to at least enjoy offline experiences stored directly on the disc. Conversely, many modern digital titles—even strictly single-player adventures—demand continuous online authentication, leaving players completely stranded whenever the network goes dark. This ongoing shift away from physical media further underscores concerns that the current console generation represents a race to the bottom.

Game Informer will continue monitoring this outage and provide updates as soon as PlayStation Network services are fully restored.
