The sci-fi thriller “Hope,” directed by South Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin, has premiered at Cannes.
The story unfolds in a small town shaken by the appearance of a mysterious creature. Before long, the residents discover that extraterrestrial forces are at the heart of the chaos.
Alicia Vikander, one of the actors portraying an alien, shared that she has long been a devoted admirer of Na Hong-jin’s work and had previously expressed her interest in collaborating with him.
Na Hong-jin eventually reached out to me, mentioning that he was developing a major science fiction project. I honestly didn’t think he would actually cast me. A couple of years went by, and he returned to say, ‘I have a role for an alien.’ I was immediately intrigued and accepted without a second thought,
— the actress recounted.
Alicia told me I had to do it,
— added her husband and co-star, Michael Fassbender.
The film concludes with an open ending; during the press conference, the director confirmed that a sequel is already in the works.
The film is designed to have a sequel, and I am currently crafting the script. If the opportunity arises, I am certainly committed to directing it,
— Na Hong-jin shared. The debut trailer for “Hope” has been released, though it remains unclear whether the film will be distributed in Russia.
