Agent 64, A Retro-Inspired Loveletter To GoldenEye And Perfect Dark, Launches Next Month

Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a nostalgic tribute to iconic Nintendo 64 shooters like GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, is finally gearing up for its official release on August 11. After initially debuting as a promising prototype back in 2021, the full experience is ready for players to dive into.

Developed by Replicant D6, the game places you in the shoes of secret agent John Walter, tasked with thwarting his arch-nemesis, Dominic Pulp, to prevent global catastrophe. While the gameplay mechanics and level design pay clear homage to its legendary predecessors, Agent 64 introduces sophisticated enemy AI to keep the action feeling sharp and modern. The story spans 14 missions, offering plenty of flexibility: you can tackle the campaign solo, team up with a friend via local split-screen, or jump into 4-player online co-op. With three distinct difficulty levels, each mission evolves to include fresh objectives and secret areas. Plus, you can inject some classic chaos into your sessions with an array of unlockable cheats and modifiers, ranging from “big head” mode and altered bullet velocity to disabling reloads.

Beyond the narrative campaign, the game leans heavily into the social roots of 90s shooters. You can test your skills in 4-player local split-screen or scale the action up with 8-player online multiplayer. If you’re playing solo or need to fill a lobby, the game includes robust bot support across multiple modes, including Deathmatch, Briefcase—a tactical capture-and-hold mode—Zone control, and skill-based Challenges that task you with meeting specific objectives under pressure.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die arrives on PC via Steam this August 11. If you’re eager to get a taste of the action early, you can download and play the official Steam demo right now.
