Activision wish to make a Call of Duty cinematic universe, first film may land subsequent 12 months

Activision Blizzard are planning a cinematic universe based mostly on maybe gaming’s greatest franchise: Call of Duty.

Which of the best games on PC would you make a film out of?

At the helm might be Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, co-presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios, an in-house manufacturing division whose temporary is to make profitable movie and TV out of videogames. Kicking off with COD follows a sure sort of logic, we suppose, and speak of a multi-layered, interconnected method impressed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually exhibits loads of ambition.

“We have plotted out many years,” says Sher, in an interview with the Guardian. “We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

Van Dyk provides: “It’s going to have the same sort of high-adrenaline, high-energy aesthetic as the game, but it’s not a literal adaptation. It’s a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope… a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie.”

The Guardian say that the pair are sketching out a COD universe impressed by the texture of the completely different incarnations of the sport, slightly than transposing current plots. A primary instalment may land as quickly as subsequent 12 months, with extra to observe if all goes nicely.

Personally I wouldn’t thoughts seeing the Modern Warfare or Black Ops trilogies tailored into film type, but when current tales aren’t going for use, I don’t see what would differentiate a COD film in concept from every other navy motion flick. Still, better of luck to Activision as they got down to make videogame film, a feat which many preserve hasn’t but been achieved.
