Action Man Movie in Development From Marvel Veterans

The project brings together producers and writers who worked on Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men ’97, The Avengers, and Spider-Man.

Working Title and Hasbro Entertainment have started development on a live-action Action Man film. The upcoming movie is described as a “deeply British” adventure comedy that will pay homage to classic action films.

The script will be written by Simon Hatt and Anthony Sellitti. Hatt served as an executive producer on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, while Sellitti worked on the animated series X-Men ’97. Jeremy Latcham, a former Marvel Studios executive who worked on Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will serve as producer.

The project is in early development. A director, cast, and release date have not yet been announced.

Action Man debuted in the United Kingdom in 1966. Palitoy manufactured the figure as a licensed British version of the American G.I. Joe, which decades later reached the big screen in a film series starting with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

In 1993, Hasbro rebooted Action Man, gradually shifting the focus away from military themes and toward spy and adventure stories. The character received his own allies and enemies, led by the terrorist Dr. X. In the 2000s, the franchise received several animated films and video games for PlayStation, PC, and Game Boy, though Action Man subsequently faded into the background for a long time.
