A$AP Rocky Reveals His Mother Predicted His Romance With Rihanna Long Before They Dated
A mother’s intuition is a powerful thing. Long before A$AP Rocky and Rihanna became a global power couple and parents of three, they were simply close friends—but the rapper’s mother apparently saw their romantic destiny coming from miles away.
During a preview of The New York Times’ Popcast released on Wednesday (Jan. 14), Rocky reminisced about how his mother, Renee, spent years trying to nudge him toward the Fenty mogul. “My mother used to say things like, ‘I know you like this girl you’re with right now’—I won’t mention any names—‘but I want you to be with RiRi,’” he shared with a smile.
At the time, Rocky wasn’t convinced. He recalled telling his mother to back off, insisting their connection was strictly platonic. “I’d say, ‘Ma, why do you keep saying that? That girl doesn’t even see me like that. We’re just cool, Mom. She’s just my friend, chill.’”
However, Renee remained steadfast in her belief, telling him, “I’m telling you, she’s the real deal.” Looking back on their eventual union, the hip-hop star admitted his mother was right all along, adding, “Mothers always know best.”
Beyond the romance, Rocky credited Rihanna with bringing a new level of perspective to his life. He explained that their relationship helped him evaluate his social circle and identify which connections were truly beneficial. “Being with my girl took a blindfold off,” he told the hosts. “She’ll point things out, like, ‘That person isn’t your friend. But that one? That’s your friend.’”
The musical duo has been in a relationship for over five years, a bond that strengthened significantly while they quarantined together during the pandemic. They are now the proud parents of three children: three-year-old RZA, two-year-old Riot Rose, and their daughter Rocki, who was born this past September.
The Fenty family might continue to grow in the near future. Rihanna recently hinted at the possibility of a fourth child in 2026. In response to an Instagram video about wanting to get pregnant in two years, the “Lift Me Up” singer playfully commented, “So I’m not crazy then? Bet!”
On the professional side, Rocky is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated album, Don’t Be Dumb, scheduled to drop this Friday (Jan. 16). The project features recently released singles “Helicopter” and “Punk Rocky.”
