“A device for those who want to chip in for Gabe Newell’s yacht”: Tech blogger criticizes the Steam Machine
Tech blogger and industry insider Moore’s Law is Dead suggests the Steam Machine offers poor value for its price. The base model, equipped with a 512 GB SSD, costs $1,049.
Moore’s Law is Dead claims the graphics performance falls near the level of an AMD RX 6600. The device trails behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in performance tests. The processor also raises concerns. In 7-Zip file decompression tests, the chip scored lower than older processors like the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 7 2700.
The blogger noted that the marketing initially promised a system capable of running most games in 4K resolution using upscaling. Real-world performance limits the device to 1080p at 60 frames per second.
