A complaint about the TV series “Kholod” has been filed with the Prosecutor General’s Office
The series “Kholod” (“Cold”), starring Lyubov Aksenova, is set to be examined for allegedly discrediting the authorities, according to the news agency RIA Novosti.
Representatives of the public organization “Officers of Russia” have lodged a complaint about the show with the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. They say they were approached by viewers who detected an “anti-state subtext” in the series. A similar request for review was also sent to the Ministry of Culture.
“Officers of Russia” is asking authorities to determine whether “Kholod” breaches current Russian law. The group was also troubled by the series’ portrayal of religion, which it says has been recast as a “punitive sphere that shields the crimes of the devout elite.”
“Kholod” premiered on Ivi, START and Wink this past summer. The story follows a woman named Evgenia (Aksenova), who is sentenced to prison over a car accident in central Moscow. Knowing she is innocent, the heroine decides to escape and take revenge on the real culprits. The cast also includes Larisa Guzeeva, Pyotr Fyodorov and Linda Lapinsh, while Alexey Kazakov served as both director and screenwriter.
