18 Minutes of Octopath Traveler 0 Gameplay from Tokyo Game Show 2025
The Octopath Traveler series has effectively reinvented 2D jRPGs by popularizing the HD-2D visual style. After the commercial and critical success of the first two entries, Square Enix is adapting a mobile storyline for consoles, rebuilding its design to give the originally small-scale project a grander scope.
Octopath Traveler 0 is scheduled for release in December 2025 and will serve as a prequel to the first two games. The title is planned for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Developer Dokidoki Groove Works is actively preparing for the launch. At Tokyo Game Show 2025 they presented a gameplay segment that runs just over 18 minutes, showcasing the care taken to retain the tone and foundational mechanics that define the Octopath Traveler franchise.
The full stream is longer, so skip ahead to the 40-minute mark to catch Square Enix staff beginning their gameplay demonstration.
