10 New Movies to Watch This Weekend on Streaming Services
September comes to a close with several major movies arriving on streaming services and video-on-demand platforms. Before shifting focus entirely to Halloween horror classics, viewers can catch up on the latest releases available across popular apps.
Two prominent films debut on major platforms this week. Toy Story 5 lands on Disney+, focusing on Jessie the toy cowgirl who first appeared in the 1999 sequel. At the same time, horror hit Backrooms arrives on HBO Max.
1. Toy Story 5
- Available on Disney+
- Genre: Animation
- Run time: 1h 42m
- Director: Andrew Stanton
- Cast: Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tim Allen

Toy Story 5 stands out as a strong entry in the Pixar franchise. While Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen) return, the film steps back to spotlight Jessie (Joan Cusack) and her relationship with Bonnie as the young girl navigates technology.
From the Polygon review:
While the movie doesn’t quite reach the heights of the first three films, it is a thoughtful, funny, emotional entry into the franchise that improves upon Toy Story 4 in every way. And while I still kinda think the franchise should have concluded with Toy Story 3, I no longer fear and resent future Toy Story movies. Toy Story 5 is so good, and puts the characters in such a good place, that it changed my whole mentality on the matter.
2. Backrooms
- Available on HBO Max
- Genre: Horror
- Run time: 1h 45m
- Director: Kane Parsons
- Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass

Backrooms makes its streaming debut after dominating horror conversations. Based on a viral YouTube series, Kane Parsons directs his first feature film about a furniture store basement containing a liminal space that consumes its unfulfilled manager (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
Per the Polygon review:
The expansion of Parsons’ series of YouTube shorts (the most popular of which has been viewed more than 78 million times) is deeply unnerving. Better yet, it’s haunting. In a spectacle-based film environment where it’s easy to forget most of the movies we watch before we’ve even left the theater, Backrooms leaves lingering shivers and ongoing anxieties. It’s smart, “elevated” horror for the tired-of-slashers crowd, but it has plenty of slasher shocks as well. The best recent comparison is Zach Cregger’s Weapons, another deeply frightening movie also built around excavating the uncanny, without unpacking all its mysteries.
3. Tuner
- Available on Paramount+
- Genre: Thriller
- Run time: 1h 49m
- Director: Daniel Roher
- Cast: Leo Woodall, Dustin Hoffman, Havana Rose Liu
Tuner centers on Niki (Leo Woodall), a piano tuner possessing perfect pitch and hyper-sensitive hearing. When his mentor (Dustin Hoffman) falls ill, Niki accumulates significant debt and uses his auditory abilities to break into safes.
4. Spa Weekend
- Available on VOD
- Genre: Comedy
- Run time: 1h 37m
- Director: Jon Lucas and Scott Moore
- Cast: Michelle Buteau, Anna Faris, Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann

Three childhood friends reunite after years apart when Coco (Michelle Buteau) organizes a Palm Springs luxury spa trip. The getaway descends into chaos when their wild-card friend (Isla Fisher) arrives unexpectedly.
5. The Love Hypotheses

- Available on Prime Video
- Genre: Romance
- Run time: 1h 52m
- Director: Claire Scanlon
- Cast: Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh
Based on the romance novel, The Love Hypotheses follows a PhD student (Lili Reinhart) who impulsively kisses her strict professor (Tom Bateman) to make a point to a friend. The pair then enter a fake dating agreement that eventually leads to real feelings.
6. The Deputy

- Genre: Thriller
- Run time: 1h 38m
- Director: Matt Sukkar

7. Unabomber

- Available on Netflix
- Genre: Drama
- Run time: 1h 37m
- Director: Janus Metz Pedersen
- Cast: Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay, Shailene Woodley
Unabomber tracks the life of Ted Kaczynski (Jacob Tremblay), starting from his time as a 16-year-old Harvard prodigy participating in psychological experiments through his years executing mail bombings.
8. The Furious

- Available on Starz
- Genre: Action
- Run time: 1h 53m
- Director: Kenji Tanigaki
- Cast: Miao Xie, Joe Taslim, Enjou Yang
The Furious features a mute handyman who seeks justice after a child trafficking syndicate abducts his daughter.
Per the Polygon recommendation:
Put simply, The Furious scores five out of five OMFGs. It is, dare I say, the best action movie of 2026 and maybe the past 50 years. (I weigh pre-’70s action movies on a different scale.) It’s a nonstop, ceaseless barrage of the most inventive, visceral, mind-bending action sequences that have ever been put to screen. Every punch feels like it’s going to shatter the space-time continuum.
9. The Breadwinner
- Available on Netflix
- Genre: Comedy
- Run time: 1h 39m
- Director: Eric Appel
- Cast: Nate Bargatze, Mandy Moore
The Breadwinner features a car salesman (Nate Bargatze) who becomes a stay-at-home dad while his wife (Mandy Moore) travels for work, discovering that parenting presents unexpected challenges.
10. Jackass: Best and Last

- Available on Paramount+
- Genre: Comedy
- Run time: 1h 32m
- Director: Jeff Tremaine
- Cast: Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius
Johnny Knoxville and his crew return for another round of stunts, combining new practical jokes with a look back at classic moments from the franchise.
