It refers to the reactor’s upper biological shield—the colossal “Scheme H.” Prior to the catastrophe, this massive steel structure spanned 17 meters in diameter, serving as the reactor’s crowning lid. Weighing nearly two thousand tons, it was engineered as a fortress to contain the intricate network of fuel assemblies and control mechanisms buried deep beneath.

When the explosion shattered the reactor core, the structure was violently ejected from its cradle. Today, it rests precariously tilted on its edge within the reactor shaft, a testament to the sheer force of the blast. Cascading from its underside is a tangled web of warped conduits known chillingly as “Helen’s hair.” These are the mangled remnants of the original technological channels, and whispers persist that dormant nuclear fuel remains trapped within this metallic shroud.
