Zoë Kravitz and Mother Lisa Bonet Ransack Taylor Swift’s Bathroom Searching for Pet Snake During L.A. Wildfires: ‘I Was Panicking’

Zoë Kravitz survived a harrowing psychedelic ordeal on The Studio’s inaugural season, yet it was a frantic snake rescue at Taylor Swift’s home that truly tested her resolve.

The actress-director appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on August 12 to recount how Swift generously offered refuge at her elegant 1930s Beverly Hills estate when wildfires threatened Kravitz’s mother Lisa Bonet in Topanga Canyon.

Bonet arrived prepared for evacuation with her pet snake, Orpheus, and the duo settled in for what became an extended two-week stay. As their departure loomed, Kravitz decided to tidy Swift’s home—determined to leave it in pristine condition.

That’s when Kravitz received a panicked call from upstairs. Her mother’s unusually high-pitched voice signaled trouble: Orpheus had slithered into a narrow gap beside a built-in banquette and vanished from sight.

“He’s all muscle,” Kravitz explained, “so when Mom gripped his tail, he inched deeper into the wall.” The scene felt straight out of Jurassic Park, as they watched the snake disappear into darkness.

They summoned Swift’s house manager, who arrived armed with a crowbar. Tiles shattered and walls yielded as they pried apart the banquette, ultimately gutting the bathroom in their quest to retrieve Orpheus.

Faced with confessing a hidden snake or admitting to demolishing the restroom, Kravitz quipped they chose “collateral damage.” Meyers displayed a photo of Bonet and Kravitz on the floor, straining to hold the writhing snake amid splintered cabinets.

After promising the manager she’d cover all repair costs, Kravitz summoned the courage to call Swift. With a tremor in her voice, she began, “I need to tell you something,” only for Swift to wryly ask, “Did you nearly lose a snake in my house and wreck my bathroom?”

The mishap coincided with Swift’s announcement of her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl—prompting Meyers to joke that Orpheus merits a spot on at least three tracks.
