Yotuel, Kany Garcia, Goyo & Tostao Will Talk Social Justice for Latin Music Week Panel

Cuban artist/activist Yotuel Romero, Puerto Rican star Kany García and ChocQuibTown members (and husband and wife) Goyo and Tostao will be part of a landmark conversation on social justice taking place as part of Billboard Latin Music Week, presented by Samsung.

“My Cause, My Music: A Conversation on Social Justice” will feature the prominent activists and stars talking about the role of artists in social justice movements and the advantages and pitfalls their involvement presents in their respective careers. Yotuel is in the midst of speaking out against repression in Cuba in the wake of anti-government protests and the success of his song “Patria y vida.” Goyo and Tostao have long spoken up for Black Latin musicians and the systemic racism they suffer. And Grammy winner García is not only a member of the LGBTQ community, but has also spoken up about multiple causes, from ending domestic abuse in Puerto Rico to LGBTQ rights continent-wide.

The conversation will take place as part of a live taping of Cultura Clash, Billboard’s new video series, which will premiere in September and is hosted by AJ Ramos, artist relations manager at YouTube.

Billboard Latin Music Week will kick off with three full days of programming and networking sessions Sept. 20-22 at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach. Other confirmed artists to date include Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, among many others whose conversations and participation will be announced in the coming weeks.

The festivities will continue through the end of the week as Billboard launches its En Vivo concerts series in partnership with Samsung, Amazon Music and Bacardí.

The week also includes the Billboard Latin Music Awards, taking place Sept. 23 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, which will be broadcast by Telemundo and produced by MBS Special Events and will honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, as determined by Billboard’s weekly charts over the last year.
