Xbox to Introduce Platinum Trophy Equivalent by End of Year

Some players find the current achievement system lacking.

Microsoft appears to be preparing an expansion for its Xbox achievement system by adding a reward reminiscent of PlayStation’s platinum trophies. Xbox General Manager Asha Sharma hinted at this change when answering user questions on social media.

Console achievement history began with the Xbox 360, where Microsoft first introduced the Achievements system. Later, Sony implemented its own trophies on the PlayStation 3 in 2008, with Super Stardust HD becoming the first game to support them. Over time, trophies became mandatory for new PlayStation releases, and the platinum trophy turned into a symbol of completing a game fully.

Now, years later, Xbox will likely receive a similar system. When asked about the addition of a “platinum” achievement, Asha Sharma answered: “The team is working on something coming later this year.”

Microsoft has not yet revealed how the new feature will be implemented. It also remains unknown whether it will apply to previously released games or only be available in new titles.
