Xbox Responds to Claims of PlayStation 5’s Eightfold Lead in GTA VI Pre-orders

Some observers suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI attracts more interest on Sony consoles.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two recently opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI. The companies have not released official sales figures for the upcoming title.

The game arrives first on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Because neither the Microsoft Store nor the PlayStation Store displays specific unit counts, analysts and journalists rely on internal data to estimate platform preferences.

An IGN report recently gained traction, claiming that PlayStation pre-orders outpace Xbox by a ratio of eight to one. This figure stems from IGN’s affiliate link program and their IGN Finds section. Some players interpreted these numbers as absolute sales, concluding that PS5 pre-orders are eight times higher than those on Xbox.

The Xbox team disputed these claims, telling Windows Central that the report does not reflect actual pre-order data. An Xbox representative mentioned record-breaking orders without specifying exact quantities, rates of growth, or specific milestones.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches in November for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Rockstar Games has yet to announce a release date for the PC version.
